Lakehead athletes win CIS Championships at home

The men’s Hockey team played a three game series against the Windsor Lancers in round two of the OUA championships on Feb. 22, 24, and 25.
On Feb. 15, 17, and 18, the men’s Hockey team took on the Guelph Gryphons in the quarter finals of the OUA playoffs. LU won the series two games to one, with scores being 5–4 for the Gryphons, 5–1 for the ‘Wolves, and 3-2 in the deciding game.

The women’s basketball team lost a pair of tough games to the Brock Badgers, 77-70 in overtime on Friday and 78-55 on Saturday.
The men’s Hockey team took on the Brock Badgers and the Western Mustangs on the road, splitting their weekend series by defeating the Badgers 4-2 in St. Catherines and losing to the Mustangs 7-4 in London.
The Thunderwolves men’s hockey team traveled to St Catherine’s on Friday to take on the Brock Badgers. Unfortunately for the ‘Wolves, the game ended in their third straight loss as the Badgers won 3-2.
The Thunderwolves may have hit a wall last weekend as they met the Western Mustangs in a double header at home. The ‘Wolves lost 1-0 on Friday night and managed an identical score during Saturday’s game.
The men’s hockey team defeated the Waterloo Warriors in both of their battles this weekend, pounding them to a pulp on Friday with a 5-1 victory and finishing with finesse in overtime with a 3-2 victory Saturday.
Adam Sergerie continued his high-scoring for the Thunderwolves over the weekend, netting two goals and an assist in Lakehead’s 4–2 road win over the Windsor Lancers on Saturday night to go along with a goal in the squad’s 4–3 victory on Friday.
On Nov. 19, thirteen members of the Lakehead University Men’s Wrestling team competed at the Toronto Open Wrestling Tournament, which took place at the University of Toronto. For many of the wrestlers that attended this tournament, it was their second out of town tournament of the year; excitement and anxiety were running high, as well as with the amount of moustaches.
The Lakehead University Men’s Basketball team opened their preseason on a very strong note by sweeping the Winnipeg Wesmen 80-68 on Friday and 92-61 on Saturday.
The Lakehead University Women’s Volleyball team hit the road to Winnipeg for a tournament this past weekend.
The Thunderwolves’ Cross Country teams opened up their season this weekend at the 26th Annual Roy Griak Invitational.

Over the course of this past school year, the Lakehead University Thunderwolves have had a variety of great showings in all sports.
Lakehead has more than just an OUA title to cheer about. Four members of the squad were selected for OUA West awards, including head coach Scott Morrison, who coached this team from the basement of the OUAs into the penthouse.
The Lakehead University Thunderwolves were crowned Ontario University Champions at the Wilson Cup this weekend in dramatic fashion. Lakehead weathered the storm against Ottawa, earning a 71-69 victory and went on to upset the undefeated, six-time national champions Carleton Ravens to earn their first Wilson Cup victory in team history.
The OUA-leading Thunderwolves split their weekend with Waterloo, losing Friday night’s match-up 79-65 and winning Saturday’s game 65-58.
The Thunderwolves women’s basketball team won both their road games this weekend, defeating Waterloo 73-59 Friday night, and 76-59 on Saturday night. Despite the score, Coach Kreiner was less than pleased with his team’s showing on defense Friday night.
