--The agreement between the USA and Iran in "Atoms for Peace" program dates back to
1957.

Thank you for reporting when the program started.

--Everthing was fine when the USA supported building numerous atomic reactors in Iran. This ended only with the Islamic Revolution in
February 1979 and by then the Bushehr plant was 90% complete and 60% of its
equipment installed. The USA and its allies were the driving forces behind
building nuclear reactors in Iran. The Shah had plans for up to 23 nuclear reactors!

I disagree that the US & allies were the major
driving force. The USA supplied Iran with a nuclear research reactor as a part of the
Atoms for Peace program. A full scale nuclear power plant, like Bushehr is a
big step up in terms knowledge, infrastructure and logistics. Which is part of
the reason why it took them so long to make the step.

          Â
--According to the original IAEA safeguard
agreements, Iran did not have to declare the start of construction of
the Natanz facility. These agreements
stipulate that, only 180 days before introducing any nuclear material, does Iran have to declare the existence of the facility.
Therefore,
construction of the undeclared Natanz facility was NOT illegal.

            Nowhere in my
message did I mention that the facility was illegal. Yes Iran has complied with some of the regulations of the
IAEA, perhaps they realized that some of the regulations are in place for their
protection. It is interesting that Iran would threaten to reduce their cooperation with the
IAEA, when they disagreed with their resolution. A reasonable course of action
might have been to convene discuss the IAEA's concerns, rather than tout their new
ability to enrich uranium to any purity.

--You can't build a nuke with uranium enriched only to 20%!

Actually you can build a crude less efficient nuclear
bomb with 20% HEU.

http://www.ornl.gov/sci/radiation_transport_criticality/HopperPubs/DefWeaponsUsableU-233ORNLTM13517.pdf

--In its Nov. 2911report the IAEA that claimed that all of Iran's enriched uranium was accounted for.

Knowing this makes me feel much better. Oh wait, there
are many countries Iran can get Uranium from if their two mines run out.
They shouldn't have any problem enriching more now that the Natanz facility is
operational.

--Ahmadinejad also called for continuing research into the holocaust.

How politically correct of him! This is progress...

--Ahmadinejad did not
"proclaim" that "Israel to be wiped off the map."

--Ahmadinejad was quoting the
Ayatollah Khoumeini! Furthermore, the expression "wipe off the map"
does NOT exist in Farsi. See the comments of an expert in Farsi, Juan Cole, Professor
at the University of Michigan

Â
It seems there may be some
confusion in the translation. Regardless of whether his remarks are translated,
"vanish", "wipe away" or "wipe off" the intent is
the same.

What, no apologies for the cranky commenters? I want fewer cranky commenters on your website, and frankly, for the enormous burden of $5 to $10 per year that the Argus takes off my student back, I should get what I want.

We use the Disqus service for website comments because it's fairly robust and significantly more powerful than the default built-in comments system. Â I know they are working on making their comments system work better on mobile devices, but that is not something we can control.

I do know that it works fairly well on iPhone, but that it has problems on some Android and Blackberry devices. Â I hope that they will fix their system soon.

Our apologies for the broken links. There is a technical limitation of WordPress that sometimes prevents articles from showing up that have special characters (like elipses and em-dashes) in the headline unless you manually edit the article URL. Â We usually catch them but sometimes we miss them.

This has been fixed!

Additionally, the comment system on the argus website is completely crippled when trying to use it from a phone (see grammar mistakes that couldn't be fixed because the comment window froze in previous comment. Seeing as a large number of students have smartphones, it should almost be obvious that a newspaper for students should be mobile friendly.

Alas, it seems like a useful quality website is too much to ask.

Why the hell is Snodden talking about OAS changes? It is completely irrelevant and is a federal issuer not a provincial one. He is throwing our buzzwords and talking bullshit as usual.

Take a look at the Dummond Report, we are lucky to have this tuition break at all, and it may be gone soon. It is simply a fact that Ontario cannot afford the tuition break that the union wants, and they never will.

On another note, what is with all the broken links on the Argus website, it would be nice to know who won the election. Good to know the funding the fusing for the argus that comes off the backs of the students is being put to good use...

What kind of nonsense is this. Â Tiresomely, the student voice these days never wavers from the leftist-cum-anarchist propaganda that dominates academia. I'm guessing that the unbridled wisdom found in columns such as this are undebatable and we all must accept them as factual. Â Join the ranks of Al Gore and his cronies to shut off debate and force feed the world with unworkable world governance. That's what Kyoto is all about. Â In that world, not unlike Stalin's USSR, only a select few will live better that the Cree. Â Â

I am vocal supporter of our Botanical Conservatory. I have been visiting there (free of charge) since I was a little boy, and still find visits so refreshing and rejuvenating (esp. in the winter). Our family has countless holiday pictures and memories at the conservatory. Not only have I personally enjoyed this facility, I have also enjoyed/made use of it professionally. I have taken several classes there (again for no admission) on field trips as part of our science curriculum. On one such trip around Christmas, the Conservatory staff gave poinsettias to each and every one of my students/supervisors. In a city such as Thunder Bay, that seems to be actively eliminating its culture/class, public green space(s) and indeed sophistication, we, its citizens can not afford to add the Conservatory to the list of victims.Â
