To the People of Lakehead University

Posted on 28 September 2009 by admin

bikeforhum2Bicycles for Humanity – Thunder Bay is an organization of volunteerswho salvage and share bicycles in an effort to combat pollution and poverty domestically and around the world. To date, the group of local volunteers have salvaged close to three thousand bicycles, sent2200 of them to Africa and shared another couple of hundred with people in need of basic transportation at our local level.

B4H-TB recently partnered up with LUSU for the second time. Last Spring the two organizations conducted an End of Semester Bicycle Round-Up of bikes being left behind by departing students. The day proved to be a fun event, with several bicycles being donated during the event and more after. In addition, the student body and staff of Lakehead University contributed several hundred dollars to the B4H-TB cause.

The result of the Yard Sale was more than impressive, with patrons gobbling up all but one of the thirty vintage road bicycles and roadsters offered for sale at bargain prices. The money earned from the Yard Sale will cover the costs to send sixty appropriate bicycles across the ocean. Next year, if opportunity permits, B4H-TB will offer an even greater selection of bicycles.

Bicycles for Humanity – Thunder Bay is always seeking volunteers who are interested in helping others using the bicycle as the vehicle to do so. With this in mind, anyone interested in volunteering to help is welcome to do so and you are invited to visit our workshop on Wednesday evenings between 7 and 9.

Thanks must go to Caring Hands. As usual, the Caring Hands group has joined with B4H to offer their unique African jewellery. Rarely does B4H-TB conduct an event without the help and support of the Caring Hands volunteers who do so much to help others. The Caring Hands bead work has become well known and received in Thunder Bay and surrounding area.

We here at Caring Hands have a great respect for all the volunteers at B4H for the cause they have taken up and help change lives in Africa. We have to also thank L.U.S.U. and the great staff and members also for their great support and vision of what is happening in this world. Last but not least we must thank the students & staff of L.U. as they are so very supportive of causes of great need in the world. As a Father, Grandfather & great grandfather by going to L.U. to fund raise & to speak to everyone who comes by while raising money by selling Caring Hands jewellry I personally have found out how really great our future looks through the eyes of these great students.. I cannot say enough about them and the staff.
With our sincere thanks from our hearts to all

    Blessings
